Judy Bradshaw, Executive Director

Judy Bradshaw specializes in Grant Writing, Fundraising, Outreach, and getting the word out about Learn to Read. Before she became Learn to Read’s Executive Director, Judy was a distinguished member of Learn to Read’s Board of Directors and participated in numerous volunteer activities around Northeast Florida. There, her passion for helping adult learner’s grew, and she moved on to take a more active role in the program. Judy loves spending time with her children and traveling with her husband.

Michael Cary, Literacy Program Specialist, Computer Lab at Main Library

Mike has been reading for more than 60 years and is thankful for the opportunity to facilitate members of the Jacksonville community improve their reading skills.  After nearly 40 years as a railroader, he volunteered as a computer lab guy with Learn to Read.  A soon as he saw the tears of gratitude in the eyes of someone who could read their Bible for the first time, Mike was hooked.  In his spare time, he helps his wife with her Papillon dog rescue, he kayaks and messes with computers.

Ken Horton, Literacy Program Specialist

Ken Horton graduated from Memphis State University in 1971 as salutatorian of his class with a B. A. cum laude in social studies and education.   After a two year stint with McDonald’s (including Hamburger University), he then had a forty-three year career with Unisource Paper Company as purchasing manager and business analyst before retiring in early 2015.  His tutoring career began with the Memphis Literacy Council in 1987, as tutor, (Tutor of the Year 1994), certified Laubach Trainer (1991), and board member.  Ken was a volunteer for Learn To Read starting in 1999, was volunteer of the year for LTR, board member for six years, participated in over a hundred tutor training workshops (including those in Memphis), and was volunteer of the year in 2014 statewide for the Florida Literacy Coalition.  Ken is now in the retirement job of his dreams, sharing his passion for reading with a part-time position as Literacy Program Specialist with Learn to Read Jacksonville.   Ken is an avid hiker, vegetarian, pet owner, reader, and traveler.
