Thank you for your interest in joining our literacy team!!

Learn to Read provides free one-on-one tutoring, small group, and computer based instruction to adults who function within the lowest levels of literacy. Tutors are an integral part of our organization.  You can help make a difference by being an adult literacy tutor!

How to join our growing family of volunteers:

Step 1.

Click here and complete Online Tutor Registration Form.

Step 2.

Attend a Volunteer Information Session.

Step 3.

Complete initial volunteer requirements:

  • Verified Volunteers Click here and complete the online background check with Verified Volunteers. Our organization code is t5vse0z. (Click here for detailed instructions).
  • Proliteracy Courses – Complete the three free ProLiteracy online courses, “Orientation to Volunteering in Literacy,” “Working with Adult Literacy Learners,” and “Understanding the Reading Process”. (Click here for detailed instructions)
  • Submit Certificates – Print course completion certificates and turn them in at the LTR office in the Main Library, by mail, by email to, or by fax at 904-630-7162 (Attn: Learn to Read Volunteer Coordinator).Volunteers must submit their online workshop certificates prior to the Tutor Training workshop.

Step 4.

Register for and attend a Volunteer Orientation and Training. (3 hour workshop.)
